(Editor’s note: Former student, and now professional Music and Travel Photographer, Sal Ochoa, was invited to send in some examples of his recent work for our blog. We are proud to feature his artistry as Sal is an inspiration to all emerging artists.)
- Sal Ochoa, Music and Travel Photographer- “Greetings Tony, Please find below a short description of each image (written below) and how I captured it. If you need further info, please let me know and I’d be happy to elaborate. Looking forward to creating more exciting images.”
The portrait of Billie Eilish was made during one of ASCAP’s Music Expo in Los Angeles back in 2018. I didn’t really know who she was back in 2018. She was in the green room, waiting to go onstage for her panel discussion with the expo attendees and I had about less than five minutes to do a few portraits.
I have always loved to photograph people using natural light. I just love the way the light diffuses under a doorway with a dark interior and the subject is coming towards the light.
The portrait of Sting & Shaggy was done in Kingston, Jamaica. This was photographed during a five-minute break on the set of their music video “Don’t Make Me Wait”. The artists had just wrapped filming the musical performance and before moving on to another set, I asked Sting & Shaggy to sit on the motorcycles for a few portraits. This shot ended being selected as the cover of their Grammy Award collaborative album “44/876”.
The portrait of the laughing Indonesian kid was taken in Bali, Indonesia. One particular aspect of traveling that excites me the most is getting to meet different people, learn about their cultures, and experience the local sounds and tastes. I was taking a biking tour through one of Bali’s towns and there was a funeral procession with hundreds and hundreds of people. The mood of this funeral was festive and this kid in my photograph was having fun participating in the event.

(Editor’s note: Ezekiel is a CMC alum and he developed his job title of “Car Culture Consultant” as a result of taking our Crafting a Meaningful Career class. He recognized the unique relationship people have with their automobiles and the instant kindred spirit between people who share a passion for car culture, and has turned those relationships into an entrepreneurial venture. Stay tuned to the development of Auto Conduct.)
- Ezekiel Wheeler, Car Culture Curator - Auto Conduct, The ONLY curated nomadic monthly pop-up car event in the country.
“Hi Tony, Thank you for the chat this morning. Below you’ll find the breakdown of what we are doing.
Auto Conduct is a multimedia car culture company distilling the spirit of motoring culture into a brick and mortar experience for anybody to enjoy. Our first facility will be the AC Bunker, a car storage facility where customer cars will feel like a private collection at an affordable price point. We’ll also have available amenities to accommodate personal care preferences as well as content capture packages to document your car and share with friends and family through social media.
Our second facility, AC ARCADE, will house an automotive inspired micro retail floor plan that startup and established brands can utilize to showcase themselves in front of both car culture aficionados and car curious consumers all year round.
Finally, Auto Conduct has developed a monthly self-published zine, DRIVE ALL THINGS, to help document stories and experiences from the community that occur at our facilities. Everything from our monthly roll-in events, invitationals and stories directly from the shops and people that keep us motivated to motor on.
It’s a brave and bold time to be in this position and developing a conceptual and immersive retail space inspired by the automobile is a dream come true. I hope you can join me for a coffee, a show, or simply a dazed and awe inspiring gaze at our monthly rotating exhibition of vehicles as you visit one of our properties in the near future.”

Thank you,
Ezekiel Wheeler
