Tony Luna Creative- Update 7-31-2018

HERE ARE THE HEADLINES WHICH ARE FOLLOWED BY THE COMPLETE STORIES…

*****

- Agnes Carrera is requesting our responses to gauge interest the new “Career Management and Matching platform that helps find Meaningful Work” she created. She asks us to click on her inventive Heart@Work link, https://www.heartatworkbeta.com
check it out, and then respond on whether you would 1.) use the product, if so hit “try beta”; 2.) why would you use it?; 3.) how much would you pay for it?; and 4.) any additional feedback. Agnes presented her Heart@Work project at our last SchmoozeFest and it is based upon matching a company’s values with a potential employee’s values. A great way to find a perfect fit for a company! Your responses will help her as she presents her product to potential funders. Please reply to her request and help her further her success…

- Art in L A - Affair, a celebration of the arts in Hollywood, will be held August 17-19 near the historic Hollywood center of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. The event will feature “contemporary fine art in all media including painting, sculpture, photography with edition art prints and merchandise also available to the public.” Come join in the fun and experience some remarkable art…

- Cristina Benedetti cordially invites us to Anthony Thomas’ “RISE of the NATION” at the EL PORTAL Theatre, North Hollywood- August 22-23. Our Cristina was the assistant director and choreographed a piece and dance as well. We encourage all to come out for an evening of spirited dance and music…

- Bill Wishner will be conducting a book signing and lecture at Vroman's Book Store in Pasadena, Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 PM. He will be signing his new book,  "Artifacts" (Acuity Press 2018)...first publication from Art of the City Wall 2011-2017 and delivering a talk titled, “My Life as a Visual Hunter.” His work will be on exhibition from August 20 to October 1. Come out to support a great member of our creative community and be inspired by his work…

- Carmel O’Mara-Horwitz informs us that on September 1, a show she has been working on for the past two years of the work by Faiya Fredman, will be opening at the Oceanside Museum of Art. In addition to learning a great deal through this opportunity she has also had the opportunity to create products that will be on sale at the gift store such as a coloring book, scarves (pictured herein), handbags, tote bags, and jewelry, as well as greeting cards and postcards. “This brings all my past work to the job. It is nice to help others make a product for the first time.” Not only that but she has “…been making lesson plans for the museum to offer school classes that visit in the fall. We also plan some activities for anyone who visits the museum meaning adults and families.” This a testament to Carmel’s many talents. Great work Carmel!…

- Jen Julian updates her on her tremendous progress for June Bug Pictures, her new production company which we announced last December, 2017, dedicated to honoring heroic women. June Bug Pictures has secured their first investor, officially formed their LLC, and are looking for “a seasoned line producer to put together a real budget and boards for our female fighter pilot action project which we will be taking to studios in the fall.” In addition they are “…doing well with pitch coaching workshops to help creatives and entrepreneurs develop their ideas and deliver knock out pitches!” You are invited to listen to a podcast that was done for Pilar Alesandra’s program “On The Page” for an informative and entertaining story of what it takes to make your dreams come true…

- Michael Salvatore Tierney. If you have been wondering what Michael Salvatore Tierney has been doing the past year and half, as I have, you can read about his incredible work renovating a 1961 homestead house on five acres in Joshua Tree, California. He has done all the work himself and “enjoying the process.” He has met like-minded creatives who have similarly moved to the remote area from New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. Go to the blog to see some pictures of his amazing craftsmanship. I know he would love to hear from you…

- Andrea McCarthy has again generously shared a list of job opportunities in the arts at institutions of higher learning. Listed in the blog is a very small sample of the opportunities. More jobs are listed on the web site for Academic Keys, Inc. Thank you Andrea for making these notifications possible…

- And the next SchmoozeFest is Thursday, September 6 from 6:30 to 9:30 at Art Center at NIght's South Campus building, 950 South Raymond Ave., Pasadena...

- Agnes Carrera- Graphic Designer and formulator of an innovative new job search site based on…Heart at Work.

HEART@WORK

A Career Management and Matching platform that helps everyone find Meaningful Work.

The Way to Career-Bliss-
Research shows sharing a company’s purpose and values lead to better employee engagement and work performance. So why not include them in our work search?

“HI Tony,
How are you? Hope you’re well.

I wanted to update and share with you the landing page of the project I presented at (the last) SchmoozeFest (called) Heart@Work. https://www.heartatworkbeta.com

I’d love your first impression and whether or not you, or your students/colleagues would:

1) Use this product (and if you would, please hit “try beta” so I can record interest in the product. And please share around! :) )
2) Why you would use this product?
3) How much you would pay for a product like this?
4) Additional feedback, comments, ideas.

I am currently at the validation stage, and if there is enough record interest. I would use the data for funding to develop the product.

Thank you so much, and look forward to your thoughts!

~Agnes

- Carmel O’Mara-Horwitz, Children's Book Illustrator, Artist-

“Hi Tony. So I am happy to share with you the project I have been working on there last two years. I have been helping Faiya Fredman put together her show at the Oceanside Museum of Art. The show will be opening on September 1st.!
http://www.oma-online.org/fredman/
http://www. oma-online.org/exhibitions-oma/

This has been a great opportunity and I have been learning a lot! There are a few of us working as a team. We have worked with shipyards to get sculptures made… Finding printers and framers has been a good education. Faiya wanted to make some of her work into lenticulars and so I have been paid to learn how to make them with her. It is not my art but that has helped me see what it takes to get work ready for a show. For example, letting the curators pick the images without interference… since they see what you don’t.

With the team, I have also been creating products to sell in the gift store. We now have a coloring book. I translated her artwork into line art for people to color. Scarves, handbags, tote, bags, and jewelry, as well as greeting cards and postcards. This brings all my past work to the job. It is nice to help others make a product for the first time.

Last I have been making lesson plans for the museum to offer school classes that visit in the fall. We also plan some activities for anyone who visits the museum meaning adults and families.

Anyway, I am grateful for your class; it helped me look out of the box and recognize work.

Best wishes,

Carmel

- Michael Salvatore Tierney, Photographer- “A quick update on what I’ve been doing. I’ve moved out to Joshua Tree where I bought a house (1961 homestead) up by the boulders where all the lots are 5 acres. It’s been a year and a half and I’ve been doing nonstop renovations and rebuilding, doing all the work myself. I’ve really been enjoying the process and have met a great number of like minded fellow artists and creative types out there, many of whom are from New York, LA, or the Bay Area.

It would be great to catch up at Jones one of these weeks! I’ll attach a pic of some of my design and woodwork projects.

Talk Soon
Michael
