HERE ARE THE HEADLINES WHICH ARE FOLLOWED BY THE COMPLETE STORIES…
Dear friends it’s SchmoozeFest time again! Put on your best SchmoozeFest outfit (only kidding) and join us Thursday, September 6, from 6:30 PM to 9:30. As usual we will be at the Art Center at Night/Public Programs building at 950 South Raymond Ave., Pasadena, CA. It’s a chance to bounce ideas off of one another, gain support for our ventures, meet like-minded creative individuals, and of course, have some fun. It’s inspiring, enlightening, and the best way to spend an evening with people who have passion and purpose.
- Registration for the Art Center at Night/Public Programs fall classes has begun, and classes begin Saturday, September 8. Take a look at the catalogue of intriguing classes that can expand your world and your creativity: https://www.artcenter.edu/acn/coursedescriptions.jsp
And sign up by contacting Art Center at Night, 626-396-2319 and talk to one of the informative counselors. You may also click on https://www.artcenter.edu/acn/, or send an email to tony@tonylunacreative.com for more information…
- You may Register Now for “Crafting a Meaningful Career- Part One- Discovering the Dream” Our unique class for mid-career professionals eager to take their careers to the next level begins Tuesday, September 11, 7:00 to 10:00 PM. Maybe you, or someone you care about, has thought about a career change but haven’t known where to start. Well, sign up for our class and learn how to ask the right questions that will help you to make a fulfilling career choice. George Eliot eloquently and with great insight is quoted to have said, “It’s never too late to be who you might have been.”
- Sorry for the late entry (due to the blog posting cycle) but Lee White, Assistant Professor of Photography at the College of the Canyons informs us that the Large Format and Zone System class at COC begins August 30. This “large format (4x5) B&W, perspective controls, ...will give access to the COC Black and White darkroom for the semester so some of the photographers might be interested in that class.”
- On Saturday, August 25, Jennifer Julian proudly announced the official Launch Party for her new movie production company, June Bug Pictures! We are exceedingly proud of her accomplishments and she has allowed us to share photos of the event featuring shots of she and her business partner, Holly Payberg along with supporters, and mock-up movie posters for her two main projects featuring historical female heroes. Best of luck Jen and Holly, the timing is right to set the record straight!…
- Jeremy Jackson informs us that he has completed a photo project for new sports drink, K+ Organics. A big catalog of images will be rolling out over the next year and we will be enjoying more of his work. Jeremy continues to delight us with his athletic and performance photography and we applaud his creative development. Check out hi web site to see more of his powerful work…
- Doug Breuninger lets us know that framed pieces and prints of his incredible art work of autos on Post It Notes (TM) have been on sale at the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum. You may visit the museum to purchase his miniature masterpieces or you may go online to http://www.notablerides.com. Great work Doug, we remember your talking about your passion in class and now your work is available to an appreciative audience of automobile aficionados!…
- Andrea McCarthy has again generously shared a list of job opportunities in the arts at institutions of higher learning. Listed in the blog is a very small sample of the opportunities. More jobs are listed on the web site for Academic Keys, Inc. Thank you Andrea for making these notifications possible…
… AND NOW HERE ARE THE COMPLETE STORIES:
- SchmoozeFest! Dear friends it’s SchmoozeFest time again and this time the date is Thursday, September 6, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 at the Art Center at Night/Public Programs building at 950 South Raymond Ave., Pasadena, CA. As is the usual agenda our SchmoozeFest starts off with an announcement of events originated by people who have attended our classes, workshops, or lectures. After the introduction there are ten-minute presentations by any attendees who wish to share their latest achievements, or practice their pitches. And those presentations are followed by a chance to network with each other and see how we can assist our creative community. It’s a chance to bounce ideas off of each other, gain support for our ventures, meet like-minded creative individuals, and of course, have some fun. It’s inspiring, enlightening, and the best way to spend an evening with people who have passion and purpose.

Here are some quotes from past attendees about how the classes helped them:
"...this class offered lessons designed to get in touch with where your passion lies..."
"...helped me to redefine my goals and determine the steps to get there..."
"...confirmed my decision to make this important change in my career..."

- Lee White, Assistant Professor, Photography, College of the Canyons- “Tony, If you feel it is appropriate, would you include a note in your Creative Update about the College of the Canyons’ Photo 280 Large Format and Zone System class – large format (4x5) B&W, perspective controls, pre-visualization which will give access to the COC Black and White darkroom for the semester so some of the photographers might be interested in that class.”
(And, in a follow-up email…)
The class starts August 30, so I’m late in getting this to you. Registration is at http://www.canyons.edu/Offices/admissions/Pages/ClassSchedule.aspx. It is a 3 unit class so $138 for the class, $31 for student fees and $25 for parking. Class is Monday and Wednesday from 1:05 PM to 3:25 PM. I don’t have any student images for this class. Questions contact me lee.white@canyons.edu. As I said, this is an opportunity to learn to use large format equipment from COC and the school’s darkroom for developing and printing plus the Zone system.
Thanks for doing this.”

- Jen Julian, Principal, June Bug Pictures- “Hi Tony, Great photos!! So here’s a bit about June Bug:
June Bug Pictures is a boutique production company focused on developing inspired, thought-provoking, primarily female-driven content for film, television and the digital space.
Our mission is to create content with the power to shift perspectives, spark imagination, shine a light on forgotten heroes and often cause us to laugh at our shared humanity.
Like June bugs, we are curious creatures, with a bold sense of exploration and a fascination with what lives inside our universe.
We are persistent little suckers, deeply inquisitive and just a little bit lovingly in your face, especially when we have a project we really believe in or something we need to find answers to.
We are creative shepherds. Dream catalysts. People artists. We love what we do and who we do it with. Above all, we play well with others…”

- Jeremy Jackson, Photographer- “Hey Tony, Glad to hear things are going well at Art Center. I shot for this company http://www.kplusorganics.com/ The creative director at Chiat Day is starting it as a side project. Most of the photography on the website is mine. Lebron’s wife is an investor of the company. I shot a big catalog of images for them they’ll be rolling out over the next year probably. Would love to catch up soon!
Best,
Jeremy
